Who Owns Your Camp

and why it matters

Ramah is a nonprofit, community-supported day camp.

No investors. No shareholders.

No ownership changes that ripple down to your camper.

The Question Most Families
Never Ask

Most parents choose a summer camp based on activities, staff, and facilities. Fewer ask a simpler question: who actually owns this camp, and what do they answer to?

It’s worth asking. Camp ownership has changed hands more in the last two years than at almost any point in the industry’s history — camps bought, sold, and consolidated by outside investors. When that happens, the people deciding what your camper’s summer looks like are no longer necessarily camp educators. They’re often financial stakeholders, weighing programming against margin.

Ramah has never faced that question, because the answer has never changed.

What “Nonprofit” Actually
Means Here

We’re not owned by anyone — we’re supported by the community we serve.

Every dollar of tuition and every philanthropic gift goes back into camp: staff, programming, facilities, and financial aid for families who need it.

There’s no parent company deciding whether this is the summer programming gets trimmed to hit a return target.

Our board is made up of local families, alumni, and community leaders — not investors evaluating an asset.

We answer to the community we’ve served for over 25 years, not to a private equity fund or portfolio strategy.

Stability You Can Plan Around

A camp’s ownership structure isn’t just a values statement — it’s a practical signal about what your family can count on.

What Families say

The camp was so accommodating and made my kids feel so special. They were very attuned to each of their needs and proactively addressed them.

She experienced so much growth over the summer. She looked forward to achieving certain milestones this summer – climbing the rock wall, getting her deep end certificate – and was so thrilled to achieve them. She was excited to get a medal for the third summer and really feels connected to camp.

Even though my son is new to Jewish camp, he never felt like an outsider. He learned the songs and camp norms quickly and felt immersed in Jewish life and immediately accepted. He always felt emotionally safe at Ramah which allowed him to flourish and become more independent while increasing his love and pride in being Jewish.

He had an amazing experience. He really values feeling like part of a community and that was definitely the case this summer. I regularly hear him singing Jewish songs around the house that he learned at camp. He is also asking us to celebrate Shabbat more often. I love seeing him connect to his Jewish identity this way.
