ENTERING GRADES 1, 2 & 3
Boker Tov Machaneh Ramah Yomi! (Good morning Ramah Day Camp!) For decades, chanichim (campers) have been greeted with this iconic phrase each morning as they enter camp. Ramah Day Camp has a proud history of interweaving Hebrew language into the day’s activities through the use of activity names, songs, and stories.
Our Hebrew Immersion Program
We are excited that Sha’ar Chicago, our Hebrew immersion program introduced in 2021, will return for a fourth summer in 2024! Once again all aspects of the camp day will be conducted in Hebrew, giving children an opportunity to gain proficiency as they participate in the full Ramah Day Camp schedule of activities–swimming, sports, arts and crafts, and more. Campers will learn to understand and speak Hebrew naturally, by listening to and speaking with their counselors and peers.
Sha’ar is available to campers entering 1st – 3rd grade. It is an optional program, so campers must first be registered for the full summer at camp and then opt-in to Sha’ar.
Sha’ar will run parallel to our standard Amitzim, Bonim, and Giborim programs and the Sha’ar campers will participate in all the fun activities Ramah has to offer alongside their non-Sha’ar peers.
Sha’ar Chicago has its own Rosh Eidah (division head), a higher staff/child ratio and specialized training for the Sha’ar staff in order to ensure the most effective program. Therefore, there is an additional fee of $250 for participating in Sha’ar Chicago. *Please note, if you are applying for financial aid, this additional fee will be factored into your tuition and your award.
Space is limited, so if you are interested in Sha’ar please let us know as soon as possible. Your entering 1st – 3rd grader must be registered for the full summer to be eligible. Sha’ar applications will be reviewed and participants may be accepted into the program after a conversation with Director Talia Derman.
During the application process, you will have the opportunity to select the Sha’ar Chicago program. For additional info on Sha’ar, please email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sha’ar Chicago is part of the National Ramah Sha’ar Hebrew program.
